The K House was born out of the homeowners' passion for travel and their desire to incorporate the essence of their favorite destinations into their new home. The design draws inspiration from the sunny beaches and wide open spaces experienced during their travels, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and tranquility.
What sets the K House apart from other designs is its unique layout and compartmentalization. Unlike traditional homes, the dining room is strategically placed in front of the living room, encouraging interaction and fostering a sense of togetherness. The absence of obvious doors adds to the seamless flow of the space, with doors cleverly disguised as sliced or hidden elements.
The realization of the K House involved the use of various building materials, including aluminum-framed glass doors, latex paint, cement-finished wall surfaces, faux finish paint, laminate flooring, and natural veneer. These materials not only contribute to the aesthetic appeal of the design but also ensure durability and functionality.
With an area of 92 square meters, the K House offers a flexible and adaptable living space. The clever use of natural light and the strategic layout create an environment that promotes interaction and harmony among family members. The project, which started in May 2016 and was completed in September 2016, is located in Taipei, Taiwan.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was the restoration of the original garden balcony. Due to the absence of a drain, an alternative plan had to be devised to ensure the functionality and aesthetics of the space. This obstacle was overcome through creative thinking and problem-solving.
The K House has been recognized for its exceptional design and innovation, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2018. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness demonstrated by Cheng-Wen Tang in this project.
With its unique layout, seamless flow, and innovative design elements, the K House by Cheng-Wen Tang is a true testament to the power of reimagining traditional spaces. It serves as an inspiration for those seeking to create a harmonious and functional living environment that reflects their personal style and experiences.
